Getting started to teach your very young child is often the hardest part but if you started very early introducing your child all the things around him then it wouldn’t be difficult. When the child is aware of the things around him then it is easier to teach him in the future.
The usual problem in almost all the children I have handled in the tutorial center is their ignorance about the things that exist around them.
Most young children even some older children do not know the fruits and vegetables save for the fruits and vegetables that they regularly eat like apples, oranges, bananas and mangoes. They don’t know a peach, a pear, a jackfruit, a mangosteen and many more fruits. They also do not know the vegetables that they are eating. So, in order for your child to learn the things around him, make sure that you are teaching them these things.
Ask a child what a hoe is and he will shake his head meaning he doesn’t know what a hoe is. Ask him what a tablet is and he will surely tell you in detail about it. So, these things are simple but they will have a huge part when the child will soon start his formal education. As I always say, start the child’s education early on and start at home.
Children learn easier and better if you do it naturally. Hands-on experience is always the best teacher. Say for example, you cooked cabbage, carrots and bell pepper; you can let your young child watch as you prepare the vegetables then mention the names of the vegetables one by one. It is good to let the children know what they eat and what they see around them. That way, in the future, they will not be ignorant about the things around them.
When I teach the young kids, I always let them touch the real thing, especially the fruits and the vegetables. If possible let them taste the fruits so that they will have better retention about the fruits you are talking about. Relating the fruit to the taste will make them remember the fruit and have better retention.
Pictures are very helpful but if possible opt for the real things to show the children. Of course this is easier done at home. Most materials in school are pictures and tri-dimensional objects that are copied from the real thing.
Even if your child is very young, you can teach him about the objects he touches and sees around him. This is important because this is the start of his education.
